It's not so crazy anymore

I even forgot what for but I believe that things have changed so much. Cagayan de Oro City has changed. There is the danged Night Cafe but I don't even care to rant about it anymore. I am here alone and I thought it would be different, that my presence here in Cagayan de Oro City would make a difference in our lives. Maybe it has made a difference, maybe it has served to uncover the fiction of who I really am.

I may have discovered the real me, the one that is not in my mind but the one that exists in other people's minds. I do not really care and my life has been lived the way it has been and I may change enough to make a difference in whatever is left of this life. There is really nothing much that I can see. I do not really count and my insignificance only serves to make me realize how great the universe is and how tiny Cagayan de Oro City is.

Does it matter at all what happens from now on? I am off to Dumaguete tomorrow and I can see nothing great that can happen from me going. Nothing is going to happen if I stayed. There is nothing that will change, I think.

Some Recent Surge

I have been having some good fortune in that I have consistently updated these blogs for the past few days. Well, they do deserve some attention and I have been remiss in this. I do realize that many things need to be updated and time is one thing that I have had a lot of these past few months and the problem has always been the proper use of time.

I have been wasting time and this is not a good thing to do and it seems to me that things are going to change and I might have to move a little faster in order to meet the demands of new projects. Right now, there has been a surge of activity relating to some new ventures. I do not know if this is going to change the course of events significantly but I suspect that some good things are sure to come.

Still Blog Crazy

Even though I have not updated these pages in quite a while, I have been blogging still and this crazy blogging has taken me to different platforms, different modes, different styles. I had tried Wordpress before and didn't like it. I preferred Blogger and that was that. There is no mystery there and it is simply because I cut my teeth blogging with Blogger and it is hard to learn a new thing once you have gotten used to one.

This of course had to give way to need as I needed something to help me get lots of content for SEO purposes and everywhere I went there was mention of WP this, Wordpress that and besides, my new hosting allowed me to install Wordpress on my own servers, no sweat.

Anyway, here's Cagayan de Oro City with another one: Cagayan de Oro City. My Cebu City site has made pr1, surprise, surprise. Dumaguete is still in the boondocks as far as Google goes but Dumaguete has made some headway.

Am I blog crazy still? Maybe. I have not been crazy for quite a while and I have not really written anything at all for a very long time. Until now. I have just gone to all my blogs and written as if someone crazed or pushed or obsessed. Blogging is fun and I always have lots to say about anything in this life of mine. I have seen what it is to live like a rat and I do not like it one bit. What can I do? Nothing actually. So I sit here and bang on this keyboard like someone crazed and out of control.

There is no need to count minutes or words or hours or days. There is nothing to count anymore. When it started, it seemed that it would be a good idea to think it through and try to make sense of everything that came across my consciousness. Is this the right way? Is there a correct formula for doing this thing called blogging? Or is the formula only going to spoil the innovation, the impulsiveness, the directness, the lack of distance between thought and keyboard?

Getting a little wiser

Today I made a conscious effort not to be in denial. I often have an idea which I believe is good and fair to all concerned and immediately throw all my emotions and intellectual resources behind that idea. This is not a problem of itself until I have to sell it to another person. The thing is, people seldom do things when the idea comes from somebody else. They would want to do things where they think that they originated the thought or idea. I do not know how to sell an idea, to give it or insinuate it into another person's mind to the point where he or she would accept it as his or her own. This is a problem wth me. I have an idea and I want credit for that idea, a proclivity which inevitably leads to conflict with the egos of others who I want to sell the idea to.

Today I killed an idea. I consciously killed it and refused to bring my whole being to support it. It is liberating. I often have to sacrifice my integrity just to sell an idea to others. I may be on to something here. I often sell myself short simply because I want my idea adopted. I am too eager, I guess. I stood my ground and killed my brilliant idea. Well, not really killed it but took ir for my own and use it to my own purposes.

I was Blog Crazy, bitten by the bug and I blogged like crazy. This is an apt description of the state of affairs two years ago when I started to blog like crazy. It is not really all that difficult to imagine how one could get blog crazy in a short span of time from the time when he or she gets bitten by the blog bug. Crazy, but it's true. I blog and I blog like crazy.

Like a machine, an automaton perhaps, I needed to write my thoughts and, as we know our minds are thought machines constantly, unwittingly, turning out thoughts as it chases after more thoughts that make their way in our consciousness. Blog crazy, that was what I was. Lucky for me I am cured of the madness. I no longer blog like crazy. I still blog but not crazy like before.

This must be because I am preoccupied with a new world, Ching's World. Truly, something worthy of attention. There are high hopes for Ching's World and it is evolving, reshaping itself, adapting to the world which it hopes will be reflected in Ching's World.

Everyone who has ever made a website and published it on the Internet knows how lonely the World Wide Web can be. The realization that the website which has been lovingly crafted now floats like a teeny-tiny bubble in the big ocean; try as it might it could not get past the waves that smother it and plunge it right into the depths of oblivion. Sudden panic brings the would-be webmaster into the arms of "Internet Gurus" who seem to occupy every corner of the Internet.

Every Internet Guru trumpets his or her own brand of website promotion secrets. Just reading what is available on the subject is enough to give one the absolute fear of web promotion. There are just too many references out there. There are just too many Gurus with countles eBooks and eZines. And the tools that they hawk all sport the same lines and the same sharp edges. How is one to determine which one is a head above the rest? When I started out in this crazy venture, I had no idea what turbulence I was speeding into. Once you get into the maelstrom of information and ideas, there is no turning back.

What I did was to submit my name and email address to every Internet Guru I could find and I woke up each day to find my inbox chock full of gems of Internet Wisdom. I wanted to learn this stuff called Website Promotion or Search Engine Optimisation so I plunged right into the fray with wild enthusiasm. I read each and every email that were sent to me by obliging folk who sincerely wanted my attention. I gave all my undivided attention and soon enough I began to discern voices which spoke in more melliferous tones which suggested wisdom above the rest.

I am not denigrating of putting down the capabilities of the many who spoke with authority. I know that they are all brilliant minds who have conquered the peaks of their Himalayan Goals and stand above the rest as real Gurus of the Internet. One name stood out above many not because he shouted the loudest. Far from it, he spoke in simple terms and best of all, he offered tools to be tried and tested. His name is Shawn Pringle and his name became synonymous with soft sell where most everyone in the net screamed at the top of their lungs to be noticed. I am proud to introduce him to those who like me, are floundering in the waves hoping for a lifesaver to bring method into the madness that the Internet can be. Let Shawn Pringle talk to you as he did to me. His advice is solid wisdom and the tools he shares with you are truly amazing gems one cannot do without if one is to catch the wave of Internet Success through Website Promotion.

Patience is a great virtue

Ecclesiastes tells us that "to everythng there is a season". Chinese taoists speak of the "will of heaven" and being in harmony with it. Without becoming embroiled in a religious discussion, I take this to mean that everything in this expressed universe has its own natural order. Very often we become impatient with Nature and want to have things the way we want them and to have them yesterday. John Lennon spoke of "Instant Karma" as a way of saying that this world is gripped in the vicious jaws of Instant Gratification. Many have forgotten patience as a virtue.

Taking the time to smell the flowers gives one a calmer sense of oneself. One sees greater harmony in nature and how one relates to this great Divine Invention. This also holds true to the internet. Very often one hears of "white hat" and "black hat". Very quickly one associates the black hat to a kind of dirty tricks collection and white hat to denote normal techniques that conform to certain rules. As one might suspect, black hat techniques promise quick results, instant karma or instant gratification if you will, but one might also suspect that there might be undesirable side effects.

Having been a full-time netizen for about two months now, I have come across terms like being banned by the search engines or of being de-listed or de-indexed and it is a fate worse than death for Internet Marketers. I did not realize at first that these activities were directly related to techniques that exploit or take advantage of algorithms of search engines and therefore, tend to give unfair advantage to those who know and practice these techniques. The downside to using black hat tricks is that they force changes in the algorithm of search engines so their day in the sun would tend to be short-lived. The fact that they teach these techniques would suggest to me that the efficacy of these techniques are somehow not as undiluted as before especially with so many copying the same tricks.

The reason why I write about this is because today I was greeted with a little surprise. My sites have suddenly risen from a Pagerank of 0/10 to 2/10 which led me to think that patience after all is rewarded. Of course, I am not saying that with stagnant content patience will still be rewarded on the same scale as a site with fresh, relevant content. This rise in Pagerank has reinforced my enthusiasm to keep on updating my content. I must admit that I had flirted with the idea of giving up.

I have been living on the edge of the Internet for over a month now and I still cannot say that I can make heads or tails of this beast. Sure, it is easy to be glib and say that the net is nothing more than a melting pot of man's convoluted desires mixed with a dash of hope, a pinch of skepticism, a teeny-tiny bit of idealistic yearning, a large portion of Tech and Science, a whole lot of greed multiplied by cynicism, an endless stream of wannabes, suckers and losers of all shapes and colors and an endless supply of wonder and mesmerized attention.

There is just no way that I can characterize this most wondrous of inventions. Well, sex is one of Nature's greatest inventions and it is responsible for the spiral growth of human development where the best of genetic materials combine to create hte next generation of improved beings. In a way, the Internet has surpassed nature in the diversity of it's creations. the colors and shapes and capabiities of its progeny is just amazing to behold and causes one to sit up and ponder its very nature.

These past two weeks has got my riveted attention focused on the problem of promotion. Granting that I have not exactly written something great and it has no reason to be wanting to be read, the fact of the matter is, the stuff that is written has nothing with the problem of finding its readers. Not everyone can read James Joyce or Friedrich Nietzsche or even F. Scott Fitzgerald. Of the six billion souls on this planet, there must be a couple of million whose psyches would resonate to the thoughts that I am trying to bring across.

Setting aside quality, the problem still remains. Of the six hundred million pairs of eyes that are glued to the Internet screen everyday, how many can one hope to catch? How is it done? The experts say "let the search engines bring you to your readers". This is a great statement which means absolutely nothing to a nonentity like me and I suspect that I might be in the majority here. There must be more people who are dazed and confused like me; adding to our confusion and frustration are the legions of Gurus and Experts who hawk their wares at aver corner, every thoroughfare, every highway. They dominate the search results and they want to help you belike them; every one of them want to be your coach and bring you to some underground lair where they exercise their magic and rid you of your innocence (or is it ignorance?). This is all very well and good and confusing because there are too many of them and only one of me. Which messiah am I going to follow? Which voice will sound more melliferous than the others?

How do I promote my blog

This is probably the most common problem encountered by any would-be publisher in the net. I like the sound of that: publisher.I have seen it a few times and I thought maybe they meant someone else but hey, there is only me here so I guess they must mean me. So I am a publisher now? I started out just wanting to be a writer and here I am being addressed as publisher. This is way cool. Thinking about it, I do believe it is accurate to call me a publisher since putting your words, thoughts, ideas on to some medium, in this case the Internet, really does make one a publisher. Well, as a publisher one has the added chore of promoting or advertising. This is a big word: Blog Promotion or Blog Advertising. How does one go about it? The obvious choices are to do it by yourself and try to reach your circle of friends. This might be the logical choice but is it an intelligent choice? Will it really promote my blog? The friends that I know don't even surf the net regularly so that is a dead-end option right there.

There is no magic bullet, I decided and was all set to give up my dreams of having my words published but wait, maybe there is a magic bulletr and I just don't know about it. The next step is to further my education on this business of Internet Publishing and learn the basics, the nitty-gtitty of the thing. It is slow going. There are so many autorities and so many ideas I do not know which one is true and which one is hype. For one thing I have to start learning the terms, expand my vocabulary and find new meanings to old terms or words that seem to take on a whole new meaning the way they are used in the Internet.

I keep stumbling acros the term SEO. Search Engine Optimization. This is a big word and one that I confess I hardly know anything about. This is great! Something new to bite on.

Who's reading my blog?

So I see my first 'masterpiece' posted on the World Wide Web and I think to myself, how cool can I get? I stare at my browser and wonder, Who's reading my blog? Does anyone even know it's there? Ah, a big problem. How do I get people to read my blog? I hit on a bright idea and send an email so my friend asking him to take a look at what I had written. Hmmmm. No response. I get a little more nervous. What is going on? No one knows about my blog. This is a disaster. I had read that it was not going to be easy and I now realize that not only was it not going to be easy, it might very well prove to be impossible.

I ponder this problem for a few days and I hit on a brilliant answer: write another blog about something that was sure to catch everyone's attention. That's it!! So it's back to the Blogger dashboard and I dash off another brilliant 'masterpiece' if I'm ever capable ot creating one. Well, it has to be a masterpiece, I have to believe that or I would just lose heart and give up the whole enchilada.. So, now I have two and what am I going to do with the new one? The same thing I did with the other one. I wrote an email saying 'This is a new one. Read it, please'. I wait to see what happens next. And I wait.

Then it hit me: how do I tell if anyone has opened my blog at all? I need a counter and fast! So I go looking for a hit counter and there are lots of them if you go and Google it.

Easy to be crazy

I am new to blogging having started barely two weeks ago. My great fortune is that the first article I read about blogs and blogging pointed me to Blogger which I now find to be ideal in a blog sort of way. Since starting with one serious, heavy blog, I tried a few other blog hosting websites and many of them charge a fee for getting my words across, which is something that I have no great need to do. A few free blog hosting sites I did find and I tried a few of them, but in my mind. Blogger stands out as being the easiest to use (for a novice like me) as well as having a look and feel that is not only pretty but clean and well-designed. What I mean is that the blog is not cluttered with all sorts of gimmicks that detract from focus and obfuscate the feel of your blog and what you are trying to say.

That article on blogs and blogging that got me started on this gig further attested that money could be made from blogging and speaking your mind. I said, whoah wait a minute, I get paid for laying out the garbage of my thoughts? My mind was racing with the possibilities when skepticism reared its cynical head and tried its level best to wrestle my now over-speeding mind to the ground and put a stop to this madness, but something deep inside kept saying, "How cool can this be?", like a mantra, like a prayer. So I jumped right in and blazed away with my first blog, propelled by the thought of the big bucks I was going to make from all this nonsense. When the dust had settled I took a step backI looked at what I had written, all prissied up and waiting to be read. I looked and I looked, and I read and re-read and somehow got the look of:: what next?
